President Donald Trump hinted on Thursday that Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia, a top Pentagon strategic planner fired by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth over allegations of leaking classified information to journalists, will face "big trouble." Before leaving for a midterm election campaign rally in South Carolina, Trump told reporters that his administration is "very actively seeking out those who leak information."
According to Fox News, Sylvia is under investigation for allegedly leaking classified information to journalists about the war in Iran and Russia's war against Ukraine. The network also reported that the lieutenant general failed three polygraph tests related to the allegations and that the investigation has been referred to the Department of Justice. It is also alleged that Sylvia met with journalists outside the Pentagon to leak classified material, reportedly after the implementation of Hegseth's policy, which requires journalists to be escorted inside the building.

Two weeks ago, during a campaign rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, Trump called for severe punishment for those who leak classified military information, suggesting that they should be executed. "Someone leaked information—some scoundrel. They should go to jail and be shot. They should remain in prison for the rest of their lives," Trump told the crowd as he spoke about the leaks related to the U.S. military operation against Iran's nuclear facilities.
The president said details about the operation's timing were leaked to the media, forcing the mission to be postponed for two days. Trump appeared to be referring to Operation Midnight Hammer, in which U.S. forces attacked nuclear facilities belonging to the Iranian regime.
